So I haven’t wrote on this site in a very long time… so I figured it was about time I update everyone on what is going on with my journey south.
Graduation was a rush… family was in town and lots of my close friends. Since then, I have been rapidly trying to get ready to launch. As of now, looks like I’ll be flying into Guatemala City on June 23 or 24. Out of the entire trip… only one thing is certain… I need to take some Spanish refresher courses. Currently, my vocabulary consists of how to order more beer, and, well, that’s about it (kidding). It’s been a long time since Costa Rica (spent 2 months down there a few years back) and my college Spanish classes, but I have a feeling as soon as I get down there, it’ll come back to me.
O ya… the one thing I know I will definetly be doing is taking a trip towards Zacapaneca, Guatemala. It’s the home to Ron Zacapa Centenario Rum, which happens to be one of the most sought after premium rums. I’m going to walk right up to the factory and attempt to meet the owner… wish me luck.
GOOD NEWS!!! I have conquered my fear of needles. For those who didn’t know, this wasn’t just a fear, more like a phobia. The last shot I had, which was when I was 17, I had to have the doctor and 4 nurses hold me down because I was kicking and screaming. For this trip, I updated my tetanus, then also was given the Hepatitis A & B vaccine. Also, malaria pills have been prescribed… so health wise… think I’m ready.
Now I’m working on figuring out what the hell to take. Turns out, I won’t have a personal escort to carry my crap the whole time… who would have thought???
