I wish I could tell you the exact number, but from my current research, there are 18 observed public holidays a year. I want to say we get 25 days off… don’t ask me where the other 7 come from… and don’t be surprised if this is wrong.
Three day weekends are the norm. Between June and August, a three day weekend falls practically on every other week. Tough life, eh? And no, don’t ask me what they all mean… because I have no freaking clue.
Here’s a list of the holidays that came up in a Google search:
New Year’s Day, Jan 1
Epiphany, Jan 6
St Joseph’s Day, Mar 19
Maundy Thursday, Apr 21
Good Friday, Apr 22

Thus, this is Reason #2 of 101 Reasons on Why I Love Bogotá.
Very Catholicy.
What do Colombians do for Independence day? Do they get schnockered and blow stuff up?
Well, they, I mean, we, get schnockered every holiday. And blow stuff up? Sometimes. Just kind of depends on how big they want to make it 🙂
But do people really get off all those days? We have a lot of federal holidays, but the vast majority of people still work on most of them.
