We Head to San Pedro! San Pedro, Guatemala.

I thought I understood what it felt like to be cramped on a bus or a boat…but I was soooooo wrong. We caught a boat from Panachel to San Pedro with already a full boat, yet as we approached the next stop, they piled in another 20 people to the already packed boat. A Visit to Hippie Land. San Marcos, Guatemala.

Lago de Atitlan hosts numerous little towns on the coast, and Josh and I, actually, more Josh, was looking forward to a visit to San Marcos. Exploring Lago de Atitlan. Panajachel, Guatemala.

We arrived in Panajachel and were immediately mesmerized by the stunning scenery. Situated on the picture perfect Lago de Atitlan, we thought the best way to explore would be on foot. We took off on a 4 kilometerwalk, only to later find ourselves on a private boat with complete strangers that we now call our friends. Continue reading

Conquering The Markets. Chichicastenango, Guatemala.

We were anxious to get out of touristy Antigua, and our next stop consisted of an isolated mountain town called Chichicastenango (called Chichi for short). Every Thursday and Sunday, people from Mayan descent enter the village to sell their handicrafts. We knew this would be an interesting experience. Continue reading

Molten Hot Magma – Volcan Pacaya, Guatemala

When you read the title (and every time you see “molten hot magma”),make sure you use the Dr. Evil voice from Austin Powers. It sets the mood. So I went to Hawaii when I was 12, and my aunt told me we were going to be able to have lunch while we watch “molten hot magma” spew from the volcano. Never happen (mostly in part because the volcano was dormant). But, I found out that there are active volcanoes all over Guatemala, and I figured it’s about time I get to play in some “molten hot magma.” Continue reading
